This article discusses the different types of broadcasting journalism including television journalism, radio journalism, and internet news reporting.

Broadcast journalism is considered a ‘newer’ form of journalism. It consists of news that is broadcasted rather than published. There are a number of different types of broadcasting journalism, and each type requires a slightly different method for reporting. Understanding the different kinds of broadcast journalism can help you choose your career path.

Television Journalism

One of the most popular types of broadcast journalism is television journalism, which consists of stories reported on the television. Most types of news that is published on television happens at regular intervals on many different stations. There are some stations that are devoted entirely to news, so constant reporting is required, such as on CNN or Fox News. There are many different kinds of professionals who work together to make television journalism successful, from field reporters to anchors and many others.

Radio Journalism

When it comes to radio journalism, things are a little different. There are no images or video clips the way there are with television journalism, so emphasis must be placed on the wording and voice of the reporter. Radio reporting might include sound bites of interviews, or quotes from sources close to stories. Radio journalism often reaches a wide variety of individuals.

Internet

Internet news reporting is becoming a very popular method for individuals to receive their news. The method is similar for television news reporting, with news ‘packages’ – including graphics, video clips, sound bites and more. However, internet news is often reported more often, and can include combinations of videos, text stories, and audio. Individuals who go into an internet journalism career may have many different duties – from being in front of the camera to writing stories, interviewing individuals, researching facts, and much more. Blogs are a very popular form of internet broadcast journalism, and can be managed by journalists and civilians alike.

Broadcast journalism is written differently than published news, as the stories are typically updated much more often. In fact, some types of broadcasting journalism follow a story minute by minute, especially if that story is particularly popular or newsworhty. While published news is typically written to outline an entire story from beginning to end, broadcast journalism often follows particular aspects of a story in-depth as the story progresses. For instance, if a celebrity is charged with a crime, broadcast journalism might cover aspects of the story in-depth – from the arrest to the court hearings, and even the repercussions of the arrest and charges.
